The restaurant opened in 1837 and has had several locations, but the current building still holds that rustic charm of the nineteenth century. Delmonico’s boasts a history of being the first restaurant to do many things such as using table cloths and printed menus. It also coined the term “86′d.”
The restaurant is located at 56 Beaver Street in the financial district of New York. They are open on Mondays through Fridays from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm and on Saturdays at 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm. They are closed on Sundays.
While the restaurant is known for its steaks, it has a few other specialties. “Lobster Newburg,” Eggs Benedict, and Baked Alaska are also among the dishes it is known for. These creations may have been the work of the French chefs at Delmonico’s. The recipes were created in the 1860s and are still on the menu.
Delmonico’s is normally a very pricey restaurant. Costs can quickly add up especially if you are looking to try their specialty dishes. While you can take your kids to this restaurant, you might not want to. They don’t exactly have a kid’s menu. Plus, many of the dishes may be a little too complex for picky eaters to enjoy. This is better as a date night or anniversary type of place.
You do want to make reservations ahead of time. The place can get really busy especially during their Summer Restaurant week.
