The National Ghandi Museum is located in Rajghat, New Delhi, India. It has been sitting in that location since 1959 and became official in 1961 by the President of India. But the museum really started its collection shortly after Ghandi’s assassination in 1948.
The museum is free to explore. Audio equipment is available for rental.
Ghandi was a man who held great influence in India. He helped create a method of peaceful protests to fight inequality. He was a man that many regarded and respected. As a result, he was able to help speed up the negotiations for peace. He was also influential in turning India into an independent country free from British rule. He was also well-respected in South Africa and helped to change things in that country. His influence and philosophies are still followed today.
The entrance gallery contains depictions of Ghandi in wood. Along with that, the museum offers the chance to hear the speeches that Ghandi made during his lifetime. These are available in both Hindu and English.
In the photographic gallery, you will find pictures of Ghandi from when he was a child to when he was older. Included are many of his personal effects such as his walking stick, rosaries, and medals from the wars.
The commemorative gallery contains things like his clothes, bedding and letters. Currency and stamps with Ghandi’s image on them are also available for viewing.
The art gallery displays the figure of Ghandi in many different artistic mediums. Things such as wood, embroidery, and shells were used to create the displays.
Also available for viewing is the spinning wheel gallery. This is a part of Ghandi’s legacy when he encouraged Indians to create their own rugs instead of getting them from England. They were used to establish a way to be a little more Independent.
Ghandi’s influence is still felt today and remains as one of India’s most influential men. The National Ghandi Museum preserves the memories and the messages of Ghandi.
