When you have a craving for Italian food in New Delhi, Travertino is the restaurant to visit. In the lobby of the Oberoi Hotel is this Italian gem. It is named after the travertine marble that decorates its floor and some of its columns. The whole restaurant is decorated to bring a little bit of Italy into India.

The restaurant is open for lunch from 12:30 t0 2:45 pm and for dinner from 07:30 to 11:15.

One of the design features that first hits the eye when walking into the restaurant is the wine rack. It boasts of over 1200 wines that can be paired with their specialty dishes or with a variety of cheeses. They are well known for their large selection of imported cheeses.

Another design feature is the skylight. The natural sunlight coupled with the light travertine marble gives a light and airy feeling to the restaurant despite the fact that it is in a hotel.

Many of the ingredients for this restaurant come directly from Italy. This gives the food an authentic taste. You can find many Italian classics such as homemade pasta, seafood, antipastos and minestrone soup. Pretty much the same type of dishes you would find at any exquisite Italian restaurant.

Travertino is also very pricey. The main reason is that it imports its ingredients. While this is good for the taste buds, it is not so good for the wallet. In fact, Forbes named them in their list of the most ten expensive Indian restaurants. Despite the price, many people still enjoy the food.

If you are in the mood for that taste of Italy in India, you want to head over to the Oberoi Hotel lobby. Travertino offers up the fine wine and cheeses along with an authentic Italian atmosphere. This is one of the places you must visit for quite the Italian treat.
